The Association for Finnish Work has awarded the Design from Finland mark to Timberwise Oy’s product groups.

Design Floor and Twise, which are product groups of the Loimaa-based Timberwise Oy, have been awarded with the Design from Finland mark. The product groups awarded with the mark represent Finnish design and the environmental friendliness of design at their best, as the material used is surplus material from the company’s wooden floor production and it has been utilised in full by creating new design products.

The Design from Finland mark of the Association for Finnish Work may be awarded to a product, product group, or service that represents Finnish design expertise comprehensively. The mark indicates that the company has invested in professional design and gained business benefits with the aid of design. In order to be awarded with the mark, the product, product group, or service must be user oriented.

Due to the structure of the wooden floor boards, the material can be utilised in full in Timberwise’s beautiful and durable Design Floor products. The design of both the Design Floor and Twise products was inspired by sustainability. The Twise products are manufactured from material that is left over from installation or production, but they can also be made from the actual material used in the wooden floors.

Thanks to their structure, Timberwise’s wooden floor boards can also be used for manufacturing furniture, as well as decorative objects or exhibition elements. The current products are designed by Finnish top designers, such as Harri Koskinen and Ville Kokkonen.

– From the very beginning, I liked the idea of utilising the surplus material from the floor production to create a beautiful and interesting collection. In my opinion, this ecological perspective is significant for this collection. I drew and contemplated the pixelated world, which looks three-dimensional at certain places, that was generated by the individual pieces. The pieces can be installed in many ways, and the ways that we provide as models are only a few examples of the ways in which the pieces can be used to create entire floors’, explains designer Harri Koskinen.

– Timberwise is a good example of how investing in design can provide a company with business benefits and how sustainability can be taken into account in the operations and product design of a company. Finnish work combined with responsibility and environmental friendliness is what companies ought to strive at these days, and in this respect Timberwise paves the way in its own industry’, says Marketing Manager Johanna Lahti from the Association for Finnish Work.

– Timberwise has wanted to invest in Finnish expertise whenever it has been possible. As we are experts in our field, we also wanted to include top professional designers in our project. We were positively surprised about how the designers accepted our challenge and how much interest it generated. The competition in this field is tough, so we must keep developing new and innovative products. The Design Floor and Twise products provide us with a competitive advantage. We have invested in their production by acquiring a CNC machining centre, and later we will also invest in a small carpenter’s shop. It was clear to us that we were to apply for the Design from Finland mark for the products, since, in addition to Finland, Finnish design is also valued abroad, where half our production is exported’, remarks Timberwise Oy’s brand director Laura Lankinen.
